Tabby’s Lasagna

Lasagna can be tricky and difficult. Not this one! Tabby is friend of mine and she recently shared this recipe with me. One problem …. it has cream cheese! If you know my hubby, you know he HATES cream cheese in dinner recipes. UNTIL NOW!!! During leftovers he told me this was the best lasagna ever. :)

This recipe makes about 8-10 servings.

Notes for this recipe - Feel free to use Italian sausage in place of the ground beef for even more flavor! I used Auntie Nono’s Everything Seasoning to season my beef.

*If you want to watch the video of this being made, this recipe starts at the 10:36 mark.

This is, hands-down, the best lasagna I’ve ever made!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 1 (12 oz) tub spreadable cream cheese

  • 1/4 - 1/2 cup chicken broth

  • 1 jar pasta sauce (about 22-24 oz)

  • 1 package oven ready lasagna noodles

  • 1/2 - 1 cup shredded parmesan cheese

  • 2 cups mozzarella or Italian blend cheese

  • seasonings to taste: onion powder, garlic powder, Italian seasoning

Here’s how to make it

  • Preheat oven to 375 F.

  • Brown ground beef (adding onions here too) in medium skillet over med-high heat. Season with desired seasonings during browning. Drain excess grease.

  • Add jar of pasta sauce. Add a small amount of water to the jar, replace lid and shake. Pour this into the skillet. Heat through, then remove from heat and set aside.

  • In a bowl, mix about 10 oz of the cream cheese with a small amount of chicken broth. Mix until smooth. You don’t want this super thick, but you don’t want this runny either. Also add seasonings to taste. (garlic powder, Italian seasoning). Add a small handful of parmesan cheese. Mix together and set aside.

  • In an 11x7 baking dish, spread a small amount of pasta sauce/ground beef on the bottom to keep the noodles from sticking.

  • Add 1 single layer (mine took 3 noodles) of noodles across the bottom of dish. Next, add 1/3 cream cheese mixture and spread out in thin layer.

  • Add a small amount of Italian cheese blend. Top with a thin layer of spaghetti sauce mixture.

  • Repeat layers ending with cheese (cream cheese, Italian and Parmesan).

  • Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour in 375 degree oven.

  • Remove foil and bake for 10 more minutes.

  • Allow to sit for about 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
