These copycat Frisco Melts are incredible and so easy to make!

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground beef (85/15)

  • salt and pepper to taste

  • 8 slices sourdough bread

  • 4 slices each of American cheese and Swiss cheese

  • thinly sliced onion (about 1 small onion, or half a large)

  • olive oil

    For the sauce

  • 4 Tbsp French dressing

  • 4 Tbsp Thousand Island dressing

  • 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce (the dub sauce)

Here’s how to make it

  • Warm griddle to med-high and add about a Tbsp of olive oil to heat through.

  • Put thinly sliced onions on and cook for 7-10 minutes, flipping frequently. (You are working to caramelize the onions)

  • While those are cooking, combine the sauce ingredients in small bowl and set to the side.

  • Also, season the ground beef and roll into 8 4oz balls.

  • Once the onions are done, remove them to a plate and cover to keep warm.

  • On the griddle, add a small pat of butter for each slice of bread and put the bread on top of the melted butter. You are toasting just one side of each piece of bread.

  • Once toasted, remove to a plate.

  • Add the ground beef balls to the skillet, smashing them with a greased spatula. Cook, flipping halfway through, until done.

  • Once the smash burgers are done, add a slice of cheese to 4 of them, top with the other 4 burgers and add the other slice of cheese on top of the 2nd burger.

  • To assemble: spread the sauce on both the top and bottom slices of your Frisco melt (making sure the toasted side is on the outside of the melt). Place caramelized onions on one side of the sandwich and then top with a stack of 2 burgers & cheese.

  • Enjoy!
